(Changing the thread title)

Mike,

That’s really kind of you to come forward and contribute to this thread. You have made some well informed comments/suggestions and have provided a clear path on how we can work and ensure we have qualified candidates for the icann board (and other positions through the upcoming NomCom). And i am sure people will reach out to you (soon after your tenure, for advice).

As a member of the GNSO Council (almost a year since i joined, elected by SG), i hope sometime in the future i will be able to help anyone who is interested in joining this Council.

I think we need to develop this kind of peer support on the continent. As Mike did, Can we all take the habit of encouraging the qualified people we know out there to apply for open positions? Sometimes, you dont know you can do it until someone who has been there tells you can.

I am even wondering why would somebody escalate their SO/AC and be willing to go through the NomCom if they have been active there. I would encourage many people to consider being engaged in their SO/ACs and seek appointment from there as it gives them a good background to better serve in any given position (being well equipped to represent the views of their appointing group, when appropriate).

Thanks,
Arsene

There needs to be a very good reason for (as an example) a ccTLD manager going through the NomCom process rather than being appointed by the ccNSO.

However I know I have tried over many years to reach out to candidates I thought were qualified (people with impressive business, technical, finance and governance backgrounds). Unfortunately very few even decided to submit. Many who did submit told me they did it at the last minute and without adequate thought and preparation.
