Mohamed El Bashir <https://www.icann.org/profiles/mohamed-el-bashir-msc-mba>, the Vice Chair of the African Regional At-Large Organization (AFRALO), has been named the first ALAC Liaison to the Customer Standing Committee (CSC). The CSC is mandated to perform the operational oversight, previously by the NTIA, as it relates to the monitoring of ICANN’s performance of the IANA naming functions. The ALAC was requested to send one liaison to the CSC, who will provide the critical end users’ voice in the process. After soliciting and reviewing the expression of interests from applicants in the wider At-Large Community, the ALAC ratified the selection of Mohamed for the liaison position. Mohamed has extensive technical and operational knowledge of the IANA naming functions. Highlights of his experience include the delegation and re-delegation of .sd and .qa., as well as the delegation of .doha and .موقع in the new gTLD program. He also represented the ALAC in the IANA Coordination Group (ICG) and was elected the Vice Chair.
