Dear Colleagues,

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE AWARD NOMINATION IN THE COMMUNITY CHOICE CATEGORY

AFRINIC calls on the community to vote for its favourite FIRE Award nomination.

The voting deadline is 14 October 2015 00:00 UTC.

The Fund for Internet Research and Education (FIRE) aims to encourage ICT development innovations that contribute to sustainable development in Africa.

FIRE Awards are given to initiatives that are already completed or that are in their final implementation phase according to these three funding categories:

- Innovation on Access provision: fostering ICT growth in Africa by ensuring that the delivery mechanism is available, reliable and scalable;

- E-development: the development, deployment and enhancement of content, applications and solutions.

- Freedom of Expression: initiatives related to freedom of expression, freedom of association, privacy, security, consumer's rights, new forms of intellectual property in the digital environment, and a wider range of issues related to Internet and human rights.

Community Choice Award

In addition to giving awards to projects in these three categories, the FIRE Awards also rewards the project with the highest number of votes from the Community.

Voting for the Community Choice Award opens today 7 October 2015 and closes on 14 October 2015, 00:00 UTC.

There are 8 shortlisted projects in the running to win a USD 3,000 prize and a USD 4,000 travel grant to attend the global Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Joao Pessoa, Brazil, to be held from 10-14 November 2015.

This year’s project submissions come from entrepreneurs located in Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, DRCongo, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, and Nigeria.
