Here we go with a possibly long thread of discussion. I hope it's worth it.

Dear Pierre,

The question we need to ask "who benefits from the crisis" or "who wants to benefit from the crisis." IMHO, if we stick to the strings, there is only one candidate for africa and another for dotafrica. Do we agree on this point? Cf

Why we do not try to break this (non-)crisis rationally point by point and level by level as most actors are african. Most of us consider themself as experts in naming but we shut our eyes to the essential: the strings, before any other consideration.

I hope that if people who have applied for africa string would fail, the reason will not be they had two candidates for the string africa!

Dear Karim,

The situation is not as simple as you want to imagine.

Why we refuse to see things as they are? Why try to distract people by saying that there is no conflict? The situation is such that even a blind or even a mental patient understands that there is conflict, and that conflict is at different  levels.

I advise our community to do not declare victory before the result were announced by ICANN.

Let ICANN arbitrate.

However, everyone is free to draw the attention of ICANN on a fact that it considers relevant. Is not that the freedom of expression and openness that we cry day and night?

Colleagues, I react on these two articles:

If we refer to strings submited to this first round, we can note a demand for the string africa (applicant id 1-1243-89583) and another one dotafrica (1-1165-42560). I wonder why write these kinds of articles would hear in a conflict between two entities for africa string that does not exist. I agree that we must avoid conflicts of interest, but for the .Africa, this conflict should not exist. There are many cases that can be used to illustrate the conflict of interest within ICANN and not the .Africa (to differentiate from .DotAfrica)
I’m sure people who have applied for the DotAfrica (as string) knew they had lost in advance the africa!
