Does a Website that Archives other Websites Violate Copyrights?
It is fascinating to see how as new e-businesses evolve so related lawsuits do -well, it may not be that fascinating for the parties involved, but for jurists it is interesting to see the evolution of the law; particularly, how traditional legal concepts are applied to new ways of doing business. Indeed, it is now ordinary to see how the traditional legal concepts of conversion and theft are unsuccessfully applied to the online world while other concepts such as copyright laws are more successful, although sometimes tricky. This article provides an example on how copyrights laws were applied to a new e-business whose model was to archive sites from the World Wide Web.

Anti-Skimming Laws in the United States
Washington State???s anti-skimming legislation was passed in February 2008 and became effective in July 2008. The law makes it a felony to scan a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) tag belonging to another without that person???s consent and to use the data for an illegal purpose, including fraud, identity theft, or stalking. In October 2008, California followed Washington State and enacted similar legislation.

Ethical Challenges Posed by the Transmission of Metadata
Several U.S. attorney disciplinary bodies have issued opinions on the dangers of counsel???s inadvertently transmitting attorney-client confidences within metadata embedded within electronic documents, and regarding the ethical permissibility searching for and viewing of such metadata by attorneys who receive those documents. A number of jurisdictions have adopted the ABA???s (American Bar Association) recommendations regarding the transmission and review of metadata encoded within electronic documents.
