[AfrICANN-discuss] AfTLD West Africa Francophone ccTLD Workshop ends

Dakar, Senegal 12 December, 2009 – The AfTLD West Africa Francophone ccTLD
Workshop ended successfully here in Dakar on Friday, December 11 2009,
with participants expected to return to their home countries to clean up
their registry system and make it more efficient than it was before.

The Workshop, which was conducated in French was hosted by the Senegal
Network Information Centre (NIC-SN) and supported by the Senegalese
telecommunication regulatory authority, Agence de Regulation des
Telecommunication et des Postes (ARTP-Senegal) was based on the Initial
Registry Operation Course (IROC) developed jointly by ICANN/ISOC/NSRC. 
The Workshop instructors were from ICANN and NSRC.

In all, there were twenty one (21) participants from thirteen (13)
francophone countries who participated in the Workshop.  The participants
were brought up to speed on the improved registry operation fundamentals
that would enable them run their registries more efficiently.
Certificates were given to all participants who successfully completed the
course.

An Advanced Registry Operation System (AROC) in French is planned for June
2010 in Abidjan, where participants will be pooled from the IROC Dakar
participants and from other francophone ccTLDs in the Africa Region. 
Participants to the AROC will be required to demonstrate how the IROC has
helped improve their registry systems before admitted to the course.

The workshop was sponsored by ICANN, ISOC, NSRC, AusRegistry, AFNIC and
WC3 Senegal.
